De stijlvolle First Lady geeft haar modegeheimen prijs.
Michelle Obama is na Jackie O. een van de meest stijlvolle First Ladies van de Verenigde Staten. We delen dan ook met plezier haar stijltips mee.
Michelle Obama steunt tal van jonge ontwerpers en heeft al meerdere keren verkondigd dat mensen jonge ontwerpers moeten steunen door hun kledij te kopen. “I try to be thoughtful about spreading the wealth: young designers. Mixing things up is important to me.”
We hebben Michelle ook nog nooit kunnen betrappen op een flagrante modeblunder en dat komt omdat ze beroep doet op topontwerpers als ze naar een groot evenement moet gaan. Dit zei ze over haar Jason Wu jurk tijdens de inauguratieceremonie: “This gown is a masterpiece. It is simple, it’s elegant, and it comes from this brilliant young mind, someone who is living the American Dream. The countless hours that you can see that he spent sewing this piece made my night even more special, and now I am proud that millions of visitors will be able to see just how talented this young man is.”
Tijdens verschillende interviews benadrukt de Michelle ook dat een eigen stijl en een gezond zelfbeeld van uiterst groot belang zijn. “First and foremost, I wear what I love. That’s what women have to focus on: what makes them happy and what makes them feel comfortable and beautiful. If I can have any impact, I want women to feel good about themselves and have fun with fashion”.
Over trouw blijven aan je eigen stijl: “People are always going to have opinions, and people have a right to their opinions, particularly when you’re the first lady; you’re representing the nation. So I can’t be surprised that people are interested. But I’ve tried to be at peace with the choices that I make first, and then be open to everyone else’s reflection.”
Ze deelt ook nog mee dat het belangrijk is om te dragen waar jij je goed in voelt en vooral wat plezier te hebben met mode en kledij. “It’s like my music. Everything in my closet is something that I love, so that I can make choices based on what makes sense, knowing that I’m going to love whatever it is. I think that tends to be my philosophy.”
