Virgil Abloh steunt zwarte studenten met studiebeurs van 1 miljoen

Virgil Abloh wil zwarte studenten een duwtje in de rug geven via een studiebeurs ter waarde van 1 miljoen dollar. Dat kondigde hij zelf aan op Instagram.

Virgil Abloh, ontwerper van het populaire label Off-White en de eerste zwart creatief directeur bij Louis Vuitton, lanceert een studiebeurs om zwarte studenten een handje te helpen. Naar eigen zeggen wil de ontwerper ‘vechten voor de 17-jarige versie van zichzelf’. Abloh wil jonge zwarte kinderen te steunen bij het verwezenlijken van hun toekomstdromen.

‘Ik zou willen dat zwarte kinderen sneller hun carrièredoelen bereiken. En als ik daarbij kan helpen door open te communiceren hoe ik geraakt ben waar ik nu sta, dan heb ik pas écht mijn werk goed gedaan’, klinkt het op Instagram.

Bedoeling is om via verschillende fondsen geld op te halen. Het eerste miljoen komt van Abloh zelf en van sponsors als Louis Vuitton, Evian en Farfetch. ‘Ik hoop dat anderen in de industrie dit voorbeeld volgen’, aldus de ontwerper op Instagram.
